The following websites all compile jobs available for freelance writers. Keep in mind that the jobs posted on these sites aren’t endorsed by After Graduation, so use your best judgment when applying to jobs to avoid low-paying gigs and scams. Many of these sites do have policies in place to only accept legitimate freelance jobs ads, so check with each site’s policy before applying.

Best of the Best

These are my personal favorite places to find freelancing jobs. I’ve found a number of clients, many of them long-term, through these three job boards alone.

Other Job Boards

Bidding Sites

Many bidding sites take a percentage of your total pay or charge a membership fee. The advantage is that some also have Escrow services for you to use, which ensures that you get paid when the project is complete. Make sure you understand what you’re paying and why before you sign up for any bidding site.

  • Elance – a basic membership is free, but you have to pay if you want more bids (I like Elance the best among bidding sites)
  • Project 4 Hire – most of the projects are for developers, but there are writing jobs occasionally
  • Freelancer.com – large job board with many categories
  • Guru – another bidding site with multiple  categories

Subscription Boards

There are also some job boards out there require you to pay for a subscription to have access to their jobs. Before you pay for anything, I recommend reading what others are paying about these services. You don’t want to pay for a job board that just aggregates jobs you can find for free on Craigslist. I personally have not paid for access to any of the following services, but I know people who have that say they’re worthwhile.

If you do pay for any of these services, make sure you check subscription policies. Many will automatically resubscribe your, charging your credit card or PayPal account every month.

If you believe any of these job boards to be fraudulent or come across other freelance job boards, please let me know by leaving a comment!
